How to Spruce Up your Home this Spring

February 20, 2023

As the winter comes to an end, the transition into spring marks a time of renewal and rejuvenation. The blooming of flowers and the increase of daylight signal the start of a new season, and with it, an opportunity to bring some brightness and cheer into your home. Whether you're looking to refresh your living space or simply add a pop of color to your decor, here are some tips on how to brighten your home with colors for springtime.

1. Choose a Color Scheme

The first step in brightening up your home for spring is to decide on a color scheme. Spring is often associated with pastels and soft, muted hues, but don't be afraid to mix in some bolder colors as well. Consider shades of pink, blue, green, yellow, and purple, or even brighter colors like orange or turquoise. Once you've chosen your colors, try to incorporate them into your decor in a cohesive way. For example, if you choose shades of blue, try mixing in different shades of blue throughout your space.

2. Add Some Plants

One of the easiest ways to bring the feeling of spring into your home is by adding some plants. Not only do plants add some natural beauty to your space, but they can also help purify the air and improve your mood. Consider adding some potted plants to your living room or bedroom, or creating a small herb garden in your kitchen. You can also hang plants from the ceiling or place them on floating shelves to create a unique, eye-catching display.

3. Mix Patterns and Textures

Another way to add some brightness to your home is by mixing patterns and textures. Try combining different fabrics and materials to create a layered, textured look. Mix and match pillows and throws in different patterns and colors, or add a rug with a bold pattern to your living room. Don't be afraid to experiment with different textures, such as velvet, linen, and cotton, to create a dynamic, multi-dimensional space.

4. Use Bright Accents

If you're not ready to commit to a full-blown color scheme, adding some bright accents is a great way to bring some color into your space. Consider adding some colorful throw pillows or blankets to your couch or bed, or hanging some bright art on your walls. You can also add some colorful vases or decorative objects to your shelves or coffee table.

5. Paint an Accent Wall

If you're feeling a bit bolder, consider painting an accent wall in your favorite springtime color. An accent wall can create a focal point in your room and add some personality to your space. You can choose a bold, bright color, or a softer, more muted shade, depending on your personal preference. Just be sure to balance the rest of your decor with the color of your accent wall to avoid overwhelming your space.

6. Add Some Natural Light

Natural light is one of the best ways to brighten up your home for spring. Open up your windows and let the sunshine in, or consider adding some sheer curtains to allow more light into your space. If you don't have a lot of natural light in your home, consider adding some lamps or lighting fixtures to create a warm, inviting glow.

7. Refresh Your Bedding

Another easy way to brighten up your space is by refreshing your bedding. Consider swapping out your dark, heavy comforter for a lighter, brighter option. Look for bedding in pastel shades or floral prints to create a fresh, springtime feel. You can also add some colorful throw pillows or a bright bedspread to bring some additional color to your space.

8. Declutter Your Space

Finally, one of the most important things you can do to brighten up your home for spring is to declutter your space. Spring is a time of renewal, here's a simple tip to get you started:

Start Small:

When it comes to decluttering, it's important to start small. Begin by tackling one room or even just one section of a room, such as a closet or a drawer. This will help you avoid feeling overwhelmed and make it easier to stay focused on the task at hand.

Create Three Piles:

As you declutter, create three piles: keep, donate/sell, and throw away. Take a hard look at each item and decide if it's something you truly need or if it's just taking up space. If it's in good condition but no longer useful to you, consider donating or selling it. If it's broken or worn out, it's time to toss it.

Be Honest with Yourself:

One of the hardest parts of decluttering is being honest with yourself about what you need and what you don't. Don't hold onto items just because you think you should or because you have an emotional attachment to them. Be realistic about what you use and what brings value to your life.

By starting small and being honest with yourself, you can create a more organized and peaceful living space. You can read our 10 Tips on how to declutter your home here.
